On Tuesday, August 4, 2025, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Nanumba South District, Honourable Abdul Rashid Musah, received a delegation from the National Narcotics Control Board, Accra. The team, led by Mr. ANCO Blaise Ayare Dery, aimed to establish a Narcotics Board office in the district to combat and control the use of hard drugs.

The DCE welcomed the initiative, expressing gratitude to the Narcotics Control Board for recognizing the district’s need for such an office. Hon. Abdul Rashid lamented the alarming increase in drug trafficking and abuse among the youth in the district, hoping that the establishment of the office would help eradicate this menace.

The Narcotics Control Board team assured the DCE of their commitment to controlling hard drugs such as cannabis, heroin, tramadol, and cocaine, which pose significant risks to individuals’ physical and mental health. Mr. ANCO Blaise Ayare Dery emphasized the severe consequences of these substances, including addiction, dependence, and physical and psychological harm.

Demonstrating his commitment to addressing the issue, the DCE allocated an office space for the Narcotics Control Board. In response, the Board assured the DCE that they would post five staff to the district immediately to start work.

This development is expected to enhance efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the Nanumba South District, promoting a safer and healthier environment for its residents, particularly the youth.
