AOWIN MCE DONATES POWER PLANTS TO BOOST EDUCATION AT ENCHI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND ALMA MATER

The Aowin Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Stephen Ntow Morcher, has donated modern power plants to both the Enchi College of Education and Nana Brentu Senior High School (SHS), his alma mater, in a move hailed as timely and strategic for strengthening academic work.

According to College Management, the donation comes at a time when intermittent power challenges threaten to disrupt teaching, ICT practicals, library research, and essential administrative operations. The new power plant will ensure a stable and uninterrupted electricity supply, supporting the College’s growing academic demands.

Speaking in an interview with the press, Hon. Morcher reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting teacher education and strengthening institutions that contribute to national development. He emphasized that education remains a top priority for the municipality.

He disclosed that the donation to Nana Brentu SHS carries personal significance, as the school is his alma mater. He said both interventions were necessary because the school authorities had reported significant power problems, which could negatively affect teaching, learning, and students’ academic performance.

The MCE explained that the Aowin Municipality is linked to Half Assini for its electricity supply, making the area prone to disruptions whenever there are issues at the source. “Any little problem from the power station affects us here—and by extension, the schools—so I thought it wise to intervene,” he said.

Hon. Morcher applauded the government for measures already in place to address power challenges. While long-term solutions are being implemented, he said it was wise to assist the schools since education is paramount, and it is crucial for schools to have reliable standby systems due to their high energy demands and future-focused usage.

College Management praised Hon. Morcher for his exemplary leadership and dedication to advancing education within the municipality. They described the gesture as a reflection of a strong partnership between the Assembly and the College.

Officials highlighted that reliable electricity is vital for academic excellence, particularly for night studies, digital learning, and research-based activities. They noted that the power plant will reduce the institution’s vulnerability to fluctuations from the national grid, improving productivity and learning outcomes.

Students and community members who witnessed the event described the donation as a remarkable act of leadership. They noted that the College continues to play a vital role in training competent teachers for the Western North Region and Ghana at large.

Students expressed excitement about the new equipment, saying it will greatly enhance evening study periods, ICT practicals, and examination preparations, especially during peak academic seasons.

College Management extended heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Morcher, assuring him that the equipment will be properly maintained and used strictly for its intended purpose. They emphasized that the donation aligns perfectly with the institution’s vision of becoming a leading centre of excellence in teacher training.

They further expressed hope that the strong collaboration between the Aowin Municipal Assembly and the College will continue to advance quality education, improve learning conditions, and strengthen educational standards in the region.
