STOP DUMPING WASTE INTO GUTTERS TO PREVENT FLOODING —NANA ATO WARE WARNS BIBIANI RESIDENTS

The Odikro of Basengele, a suburb of Bibiani in the Western North Region, Nana Ato Ware, has appealed to residents to stop dumping refuse into gutters and other drainage systems, warning that the practice contributes significantly to flooding and environmental pollution.

Speaking in an interview, Nana Ato Ware stressed that keeping drains free from waste is a shared responsibility, urging residents to adopt proper waste disposal practices to protect lives, property, and the environment, especially during the rainy season.

He also called on the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly to intensify its sanitation campaign by organising regular clean-up exercises and educating the public on the importance of environmental cleanliness.

According to the chief, the Assembly should also ensure that refuse containers placed at strategic locations are emptied regularly to prevent them from overflowing, as overflowing containers often compel residents to dump waste indiscriminately.

Nana Ato Ware noted that maintaining a clean environment would not only reduce the risk of flooding but also help prevent the outbreak of sanitation-related diseases, thereby improving public health within the municipality.

Touching on security, the traditional leader appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent Sayerano incident to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice. He said a transparent investigation would strengthen public confidence in the country’s security agencies.

Nana Ato Ware further urged residents to support both the Municipal Assembly and the security services by obeying sanitation regulations, volunteering during community clean-up exercises, and providing credible information that could assist ongoing police investigations, stressing that collective responsibility is key to community development and peaceful coexistence.
