The Western Region branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has officially launched the 2026 Media and Corporate Impact Awards, an initiative aimed at recognising excellence in journalism while celebrating corporate institutions that are making meaningful contributions to community development through Corporate Social Investment (CSI).
The launch ceremony was held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Raybow International Hotel Conference Hall in Takoradi, attracting journalists, traditional leaders, corporate executives, media owners and other stakeholders committed to promoting quality journalism and sustainable development.
This year’s awards will be held under the theme, “Reporting Progress. Investing in People,” a call on the media to continue highlighting development issues while encouraging corporate organisations to invest in projects that improve the lives of citizens.
The awards ceremony itself is scheduled for September 5, 2026, at the Western Serene Atlantic Hotel, where distinguished journalists and corporate organisations will be honoured for their outstanding achievements and contributions.
The event began with registration, followed by an opening prayer led by Mr. Emmanuel Opoku, after which participants were welcomed to the ceremony by the Master of Ceremonies.
Delivering the welcome address, Western Region GJA Chairman, Mr. Desmond Cudjoe, underscored the importance of ethical journalism and urged media practitioners to continue upholding professionalism, accuracy and fairness in their reportage.
The keynote address was delivered by Nana Nteboa Pra IV, Divisional Chief of Himan Prestea, who commended journalists for their role in strengthening democracy and called on the media to remain committed to truth, accountability and responsible reporting.
The Chairman for the occasion, Mr. Kwame Mensa, Vice Chairman of the GJA Western Region, also addressed participants, urging stronger collaboration between the media, government and the private sector to advance regional and national development.
One of the major highlights of the programme was the official opening of nominations by Mr. Samuel Kwesi Fletcher, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), who encouraged journalists and corporate organisations to submit deserving entries for consideration.
The official launch of the awards was performed by the GJA Organising Committee, signalling the opening of nominations for journalists and institutions seeking recognition in the various award categories.
The organisers explained that the awards seek not only to reward journalistic excellence but also to recognise companies whose Corporate Social Investment initiatives have made lasting impacts in areas such as education, healthcare, environmental sustainability, youth empowerment and community development.
Participants also took part in a media interaction and question-and-answer session, where issues relating to the awards scheme, nomination procedures, judging criteria and the future of journalism in the Western Region were discussed.
Speaking after the launch, organisers expressed confidence that the awards would motivate journalists to produce impactful, ethical and development-oriented stories while inspiring corporate bodies to deepen their commitment to social responsibility.
The Western Region Media and Corporate Impact Awards are expected to become one of the region’s flagship annual events, strengthening partnerships between the media and the corporate sector while promoting excellence, accountability and national development.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, a closing prayer and group photographs, marking a successful launch of what organisers believe will become a prestigious platform for recognising outstanding journalism and impactful corporate citizenship in Ghana’s Western Region.
