A VOTE DRIVEN BY SENTIMENT, NOT STRATEGY – AHAFO NPP’S COSTLY MISTAKE:Nana Moses Writes

In what history may judge as a critical misstep, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ahafo Region took a gamble in May 2022—one rooted more in emotion than in experience. Out of internal dissatisfaction and factional sentiments, a section of our delegates chose to overlook political depth and proven leadership, casting their votes for Kwabena Owusu Sekyere over the vastly experienced Hon. Robert Sarfo-Mensah, affectionately known as Booba.

The outcome? A staggering political reversal. The NPP, once dominant in the Ahafo Region, now clutches a solitary seat in Parliament while the NDC boasts five. Let that sink in. The decision of 49 delegates in 2022 tilted the political balance of an entire region—and not in our favor.

Hon. Robert Sarfo-Mensah is no stranger to governance and party organization. A former three-term Member of Parliament, he also served as Chairman of the Brong Ahafo Caucus in Parliament and as the Campaign Coordinator for then-presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. His credentials aren’t just on paper—they’re rooted in real results, unity-building, and consistent wins.

By contrast, the Acting Regional Chairman at the time, Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, secured 49 votes in the 2022 regional elections. But it was a short-sighted victory that lacked strategic foresight. A mere six votes denied the region a political titan—and the results have been devastating.

“There is a saying, and I quote: ‘Out of hatred for the cockroach, the ants voted for insecticide, and they all died, including the housefly that didn’t vote.’” The message is clear—when strategy gives way to sentiment, the consequences are not isolated. Everyone bears the brunt.

It is time for the NPP in Ahafo to confront the reality. The era of trial-and-error candidates must end. We must resist the temptation of populism and return to experience, stability, and results. Hon. Booba has paid his dues—not with words, but with years of dedicated service and strategic victories. It is time to allow him to go unopposed.

If we are truly serious as a party, and if reclaiming our stronghold in Ahafo is more than just talk, then the path forward is unmistakable: restore the leadership of Hon. Robert Sarfo-Mensah—unopposed.

The stakes are too high for another mistake.
