BIBIANI DEMANDS PROMISED TRAFFIC LIGHTS ● RESIDENTS QUIZ MP, NDC GOVT

Residents of Bibiani in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region are demanding the installation of the traffic lights they say were promised to the municipality, expressing frustration over what they describe as years of waiting without any visible progress.

According to residents, the growing population of Bibiani, coupled with increasing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, has made the need for properly functioning traffic lights more urgent than ever. They argue that major intersections in the municipality have become accident-prone due to the absence of traffic control systems.

Commercial drivers operating within the municipality have also joined the call, saying managing traffic during peak hours has become increasingly difficult. They believe the installation of traffic lights would improve road safety, reduce congestion, and bring order to busy junctions.

Market women, traders, students and other road users say crossing some of the municipality’s busiest roads has become a daily challenge. They claim many pedestrians, especially schoolchildren and the elderly, are forced to take dangerous risks because there are no traffic signals to regulate the flow of vehicles.

Some residents allege that promises to install traffic lights were made during previous engagements with community members. They say they are disappointed that the project has not materialized despite repeated appeals and the municipality’s continuous growth.

Community leaders have urged the Member of Parliament and the government to provide a clear update on the status of the project. They say residents deserve to know whether the promised traffic lights are still part of the government’s development plans or have been abandoned.

Residents argue that improving road infrastructure is essential to the municipality’s development. They believe traffic lights would not only enhance safety but also boost investor confidence and improve the overall image of Bibiani as an emerging commercial centre.

Some road users have also appealed to the relevant road and transport authorities to conduct a comprehensive assessment of major intersections in Bibiani to determine the most suitable locations for traffic signals and other road safety measures.

While acknowledging other development projects undertaken in the municipality, residents insist that road safety should remain a priority. They stress that preventing accidents through improved traffic management is far less costly than dealing with the consequences of road crashes.

Residents are therefore calling on the Member of Parliament, the government, and the appropriate state agencies to respond to their concerns and expedite the installation of the promised traffic lights. They say fulfilling the commitment would demonstrate responsiveness to the needs of the people and help safeguard lives on Bibiani’s roads.
