The Founder and Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga, has called off the planned “citizen’s arrest” that was expected to take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, urging Ghanaians to remain calm, disciplined, and law-abiding.
In a statement issued in Accra on Friday, Dr. Ayariga announced that following engagements with key state institutions, he had received firm assurances that the relevant authorities have taken charge of the matter and are handling it in accordance with the laws of the Republic.
“I have been assured that the relevant agencies are fully in control and that everything is being managed lawfully,” Dr. Ayariga stated. “Therefore, I am calling on all citizens to remain calm and cancel any planned citizen’s arrest or related action scheduled for the 18th of October.”
He reminded Ghanaians that Ghana remains a peaceful and law-abiding nation, stressing that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands, regardless of provocation or perceived injustice.
Dr. Ayariga underscored that peace and stability are the foundation of national progress and urged the youth to demonstrate patriotism and self-restraint in their actions and public discourse.
“Our peace and unity are sacred,” he said. “Let us continue to have faith in our government, our national security institutions, and our legal systems. Ghana has strong structures to deal with every issue lawfully.”
The APC leader’s call comes amid heightened public debate and growing concerns that the proposed “citizen’s arrest” could trigger confusion and threaten public order if carried out.
He appealed to Ghanaians to trust state institutions, emphasizing that grievances and national concerns should be addressed through legal and constitutional means, not through mob actions or self-styled justice.
Dr. Ayariga also called on political leaders, traditional authorities, religious figures, and the media to play their roles in maintaining calm and promoting civic responsibility across the nation.
“As a people, we must always rise above anger and lawlessness,” he concluded. “Ghana’s strength lies in her peace, unity, and respect for the rule of law.”
