HON. BRENTUM PROMOTES EDUCATION EXCELLENCE THROUGH ONE-MONTH JHS MATH PILOT:Announces Successful Completion

The Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, has announced the successful completion of a one-month pilot mathematics program aimed at strengthening problem-solving skills among Junior High School (JHS) students in the region.

The pilot project was implemented at WATICO Demonstration Junior High School throughout November 2026.

Under the initiative, students were required to solve one mathematics problem each day, record their solutions, and present their work to their teachers. By the end of the month, every student was expected to have completed 30 problems.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Brentum highlighted that mathematics continues to be a major challenge for many learners, yet it plays a critical role in their academic success.

He explained that the initiative was designed to make mathematics more interactive while encouraging regular practice—a method he described as “essential to mastering the subject.”

The Regional Minister expressed confidence that the program would enhance academic performance and help build students’ confidence in tackling mathematical problems.

Mr. Brentum further noted that, as the pilot concludes, a committee will assess the students’ work. Selected students will be invited to solve one of the problems in front of the committee as part of the evaluation process.

He revealed that the program will be rolled out to other Junior High Schools in the region in 2026, with the top three performers in each school being recognized and rewarded.

According to the Minister, the initiative is expected to improve students’ reasoning skills, help them approach other subjects more easily, and strengthen their overall academic foundation.

He also announced plans to extend the mathematics program to Primary Schools and Senior High Schools, thereby widening its impact across all levels of basic and secondary education.
