SILENCING THE OPPOSITION WON’T FIX GHANA – END THE NPP WITCH HUNT NOW- TESCON KNUST PRESIDENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 24th May 2025

We, the leadership of TESCON-KNUST, in alignment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), strongly condemn the growing pattern of politically motivated intimidation under President John Dramani Mahama’s government.

The arbitrary arrests of respected NPP figures—Ken Ofori-Atta, Okatakyie Afrifa, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, Alfred Ababio Kumi (Adenta Kumi), and most recently Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Wontumi)—are a shameful abuse of state security institutions for partisan revenge.

At a time when Bawku bleeds, with over 600 lives lost and thousands displaced, the government’s focus is not on restoring peace but on using armed men and the National Intelligence Bureau to terrorize opposition voices. These are not acts of justice—they are acts of political desperation.

This persecution comes as the Mahama-led government repeats the very failures that led to its rejection in 2016. We see the return of unbearable “dumsor,” the rise of galamsey destroying our rivers and lands, and worsening economic hardship for ordinary Ghanaians. Meanwhile, figures like Sammy Gyamfi, now at the Ghana Gold Board, are seen spraying dollars at parties, and Sam George rides in luxury vehicles while the masses struggle with inflation and unemployment.

Rather than confront these pressing national issues, Mahama has chosen to hunt down patriotic leaders who stood for progress and discipline. The arrest of Adenta Kumi, simply for petitioning the President over matters of national concern, confirms that this is no longer a democracy governed by law, but a regime driven by vengeance and fear.

TESCON-KNUST will not be silent. We stand firmly with the NPP and all freedom-loving Ghanaians in resisting this creeping authoritarianism. Ghana must not fall to tyranny disguised as governance.

Signed,

Godfred Akwasi Frimpong

TESCON President
