TESCON UCC PRESIDENT CONDEMNS MAHAMA’S HARASSMENT OF OPPOSITION LEADERS

Emmanuel Essel, popularly known as Baron, the President of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) University of Cape Coast chapter, has called out the John Mahama administration over the recent unlawful attacks on opposition leaders. As the student wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), TESCON has been vocal about issues affecting the country.

In an interview on Net2 TV, Baron accused President Mahama of using political power to harass opposition leaders. Baron’s words have resonated with many Ghanaians who feel that political harassment is a growing concern. “President John Mahama should stop using political power to harass opposition leaders,” he stated emphatically.

Citing specific instances, such as the arrest of NPP’s Chairman Wontumi and the troubles faced by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, among others, Baron alleged that President Mahama’s actions undermine Ghana’s democratic progress. The issue of political harassment has been a contentious one in Ghana, with many opposition leaders claiming they face undue pressure from those in power.

Essel’s statements have brought attention to this critical issue, sparking a national conversation. Many are praising Baron for speaking out, while others are waiting to see how the situation unfolds. The young, vibrant politician expressed shock over how the John Mahama government is using state institutions to harass opposition leaders, adding that it rather brings disunity.

He called on the NDC government to focus on creating a harmonious environment for Ghanaians rather than fighting innocent people. “Where is the intimidation and unlawful arrest of opposition leaders coming from? This is very unfortunate. I will plead with the current administration to focus on fixing the economy, creating jobs for the youth, and avoiding unnecessary tension and arrest,” he emphasized.

Essel also seized the opportunity to call on the clergy, CSOs, and the media to add their voices to the call against such impunity. He believes it’s essential for all stakeholders to come together to protect Ghana’s democracy. This call to action has been seen as a rallying cry for those seeking to hold leaders accountable.

According to him, there is a need to halt such unlawful arrest, since it may turn against the members of the NDC in the near future. His fervent calls have received support from all walks of life, applauding him for his bold stance, citing the need for leaders to respect the rule of law and protect citizens’ rights.

The issue of unlawful arrest and detention has raised questions about the role of civil society and the media in holding leaders accountable. “As a country, there’s a need to apply laws fairly rather than harassing opposition leaders.” Baron’s stance has been seen as a bold move, and many are waiting to see how the NDC will respond.

One thing is certain – Baron’s words have struck a chord, and many Ghanaians are eagerly awaiting President Mahama’s actions. The outcome of this saga is likely to have significant implications for Ghana’s political landscape. The spotlight is on President Mahama and the NDC, and they will need to take immediate steps to stop such unlawful acts.

With many Ghanaians watching closely to see how the NDC government will take steps to stop such unlawful acts, the situation remains volatile, and only time will tell how it will unfold.
