TOR HOLDS MAIDEN PASSING-OUT CEREMONY FOR SECURITY PERSONNEL

Tema, 8th July 2025

Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) Ltd. has marked a historic milestone with the passing-out ceremony of its newly recruited security personnel. The event followed a two-week intensive training program at the Eastern Naval Command of the Ghana Armed Forces in Tema.

This development comes at a crucial time, as TOR prepares to resume operations in October 2025. Management has indicated that every facet of the organization is undergoing a comprehensive reset to position Ghana’s premier refinery for optimal performance and efficiency.

The training, described as the first of its kind in TOR’s history, was specifically designed to provide recruits with modern skills needed to safeguard the refinery’s operations. It was a blend of theoretical instruction and practical exercises.

Participants, comprising gallant men and one lady, underwent rigorous modules that included physical drills to instill discipline and teamwork, emergency response strategies, and heightened security awareness. Other aspects of the training focused on first aid, firefighting techniques, and crisis management skills.

The colourful passing-out ceremony was held at the forecourt of the Eastern Naval Command. It featured a parade mounted by the new recruits, much to the admiration of invited guests. Certificates were also presented to the successful trainees who had completed the course.

The event was well attended by staff and management of TOR, as well as senior officials from the Eastern Naval Command. The show of solidarity highlighted the strong collaboration between the refinery and the naval base.

Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director, Mr. Edmond Kombat Esq., TOR expressed profound appreciation to the Eastern Naval Command for their support in shaping the recruits. Management further emphasized the importance of continuous collaboration, especially given the proximity of the two institutions in Tema.

TOR, established in 1963 by Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, remains a strategic national asset. Over the years, it has played a central role in ensuring a steady supply of petroleum products to meet the country’s energy needs.

When operations resume later this year, TOR is projected to meet approximately 60% of Ghana’s daily finished petroleum product requirements. This positions the refinery not only as an energy hub but also as a critical pillar in driving national energy security and economic resilience.

The ceremony thus marked more than just the passing-out of security recruits—it symbolized TOR’s renewed commitment to excellence, safety, and national development as it prepares to restart operations.
