Residents of the Western North Region have renewed calls for the construction of an airport to improve transportation and stimulate economic development in the area.
According to community members and opinion leaders, the absence of an airport continues to limit business opportunities, tourism potential, and emergency travel services in the region.
They argue that despite the region’s strong agricultural base and growing population, transport infrastructure remains underdeveloped compared to other parts of the country.
The residents have therefore appealed to authorities to prioritise the project as part of the national infrastructure development agenda.
They specifically called on H.E. President John Dramani Mahama to take interest in the proposal and support efforts toward its realisation.
Some stakeholders noted that an airport in the Western North Region would reduce travel time to major cities and boost investment in key sectors such as cocoa production and agro-processing.
They also stressed that improved air connectivity would encourage both local and foreign investors to explore opportunities in the region.
Youth groups in the area added that the project would create employment opportunities during both construction and operational phases, helping to address rising unemployment challenges.
Traditional leaders and local authorities have also been urged to collaborate in pushing the agenda forward and ensuring that land acquisition and approvals are secured.
The residents expressed optimism that their appeal will be considered, insisting that the airport project would mark a major turning point in the region’s economic development.
