₵12 MILLION MYSTERY: CONCERNED BIBIANI RESIDENTS DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY FROM MCE

Bibiani Anhwiawso Bekwai, 23rd September, 2025 – Concerned residents of Bibiani Anhwiawso Bekwai Municipality are calling for urgent transparency and accountability regarding ₵12 million allegedly managed by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Sebastian Obeng.

During a recent session before the Local Government Accounts Committee, it was revealed that the Assembly mobilized ₵3.4 million over six months, in addition to receiving over ₵6 million from the District Assemblies Common Fund. This brings the total amount handled to approximately ₵12 million.

When questioned if the funds were still in the Assembly’s account, Hon. Obeng responded “no”, claiming the money had been used for developmental projects. However, when pressed to provide details, he could only cite:

A continuation of a 6-unit classroom block at Queen’s Senior High School

A sanitation project at flood-prone Sefwi Bekwai Nsuo Akyi

Residents have expressed serious doubts about this explanation, pointing out that the sanitation project was reportedly funded by private individuals and external support, not the Assembly.

In a formal statement, the concerned citizens said:

> “We are demanding full accountability from the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Sebastian Obeng, regarding an amount of twelve million Ghana cedis (₵12,000,000.00). For an amount this huge, the MCE should be able to clearly account for multiple significant projects.

“We insist that Hon. Obeng publicly provide a detailed breakdown of how the ₵12 million has been spent, show evidence of projects executed, and ensure transparency for all stakeholders to verify.

“If there has been any mismanagement or diversion of funds, the necessary legal and administrative actions must be taken without delay. The people of Bibiani Anhwiawso Bekwai deserve accountability, transparency, and responsible leadership. We will not sit unconcerned while funds meant for the development of our Municipality are shrouded in suspicion.”

The residents are demanding:

1. A detailed public breakdown of the ₵12 million

2. Evidence of completed projects, verifiable by all stakeholders

3. Immediate legal and administrative action if any mismanagement is confirmed

“The people of Bibiani Anhwiawso Bekwai deserve transparency and responsible leadership. We will not sit idle while our development funds are shrouded in doubt,” said Solomon Adjei, a concerned citizen leading the call for accountability.

The residents have vowed to maintain strict vigilance until clear and verifiable accounts of all funds are provided.
