CTEAG STANDS WITH PRESIDENT, FAMILIES IN TIME OF NATIONAL SORROW

The Cashew Traders and Exporters Association of Ghana (CTEAG) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight gallant Ghanaians, describing the incident as a dark day in the nation’s history.

In an interview with the Daily Times Newspaper, National Organizer of CTEAG, Mr. Kwabena Owusu, extended heartfelt condolences to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, and the entire country. He said the loss was not only personal to the victims’ families but also a collective tragedy for the Republic.

“This is a moment of deep pain for all Ghanaians,” Mr. Owusu said. “We stand firmly with the President and the grieving families during this time of national sorrow, offering our prayers for strength and comfort.”

He cautioned against politicizing the tragedy, stressing that national disasters should unite rather than divide. “This is not the time for political point-scoring,” he said. “We must come together as one people to mourn, heal, and move forward.”

Mr. Owusu further noted that the same spirit of unity was crucial in tackling other national challenges, including the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. “If we are united, just as we stand together in grief, we can overcome the galamsey menace and protect our environment for future generations,” he emphasized.

He called on the President to use the tragedy as an opportunity to declare a state of emergency in the fight against illegal mining and other threats to national security. According to him, such decisive action would send a strong message that Ghana is serious about protecting lives, the environment, and its long-term future.

Mr. Owusu stressed that all stakeholders — government agencies, traditional leaders, civil society groups, the private sector, and the general public — must be involved in crafting and implementing lasting solutions. “This is a fight that no single group can win alone. Everyone has a role to play,” he said.

The association praised the courage and sacrifice of the eight individuals who perished, noting that their service and dedication to the country would be remembered for generations. CTEAG urged Ghanaians to honour their memory by working together in unity and peace.

Mr. Owusu also commended the security agencies, emergency responders, and volunteers who braved difficult conditions during the rescue and recovery mission, describing their efforts as a testament to the resilience and compassion of the Ghanaian spirit.

He stressed that the cashew industry, while mourning alongside the nation, remains committed to contributing to Ghana’s socio-economic growth. “We will continue to work for a stronger cashew sector as part of our contribution to national development,” he added.
