A/R: Suame Magazine Members Plead with Otumfour, Gov’t for Intervention as Developer Defies Orders, Threatens Eviction

The Suame Magazine Industrial Zone in the Ashanti region, specifically some members of Zone eleven (11), faces an unprecedented crisis. These affected members of Zone eleven appeal to His Royal Majesty Otumfour Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and the Government of Ghana for intervention as a private developer threatens eviction.

Previously, a section of Zone eleven faced eviction threats from Mr. George Kwame Owusu, allegedly orchestrated by Mr. Luqman Nuhun Appiedu, the Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG). Despite the association’s inaction, members refused to back down.

Frustrated members alleged that Mr. Luqman Nuhu Appiedu, knowing his actions were wrong, bid to buy the land where they work, paying 83,000.00 cedis to his accomplice George Kwame Owusu, to allocate a portion of the money to the Nkwantwima palace, where the land is situated. This was done to influence the Chief to support Luqman’s eviction plans and give him the land. However, George Kwame Owusu paid 23,000.00 cedis to the Nkwantwima palace as planned.

After the issue went viral and the truth prevailed, the affected Zone eleven members met with the Nkwantwima palace, explained the situation, and refunded the money (23,000.00) to Luqman. This was done to have peace of mind and work peacefully on the land, leaving a balance of 60,000.00 cedis to be added to Luqman’s payment.

Despite their efforts to pay the outstanding amount and stay on the land peacefully, their efforts have been unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Luqman is hiding behind George Kwame Owusu to harass them and take them to court without any lawful means.

Members now call on Otumfour Osei Tutu II and the government to stop the unlawful takeover of the plot they have occupied for over 23 yrs (Twenty three years). “We appeal to His Royal Majesty and the government for their intervention to prevent the unlawful eviction,” they stated.

The Suame Magazine Industrial Zone has been a beacon of economic growth in the Ashanti Region for decades. However, a protracted dispute between Zone eleven and one George Kwame Owusu puts thousands of artisans, traders, and workers at risk.

This man George Kwame Owusu claims ownership and has served the affected Zone eleven members with an eviction notice, citing redevelopment plans. The members contests this claim, arguing that the land is GNAG’s property allocated by the Government with Executives Instrument (EI).

To avert the impending eviction, affected members appeal to Otumfour Osei Tutu II to intervene and resolve the dispute. They also call on the Government to protect their interests and ensure business continuity.

“We remain resolute in protecting our businesses and livelihoods. We vow to explore all legal avenues to prevent eviction and ensure the industrial hub’s continued growth and development.”

As time runs out, the fate of affected Zone eleven members hangs in the balance. Prompt action is necessary to prevent a catastrophic outcome. “Our fate is uncertain, and our lives are threatened. We need intervention to ensure our voices are heard and prevent eviction.” They confirmed.
