SUBRI, BIBIANI-AHWIASO-BEKWAI MUNICIPALITY — Residents of Subri in the Bibiani-Ahwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region have expressed frustration over the alleged failure of the current Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo, to deliver on a long-standing promise to provide a functional network connection in the area.
According to community members, Hon. Asamoah Brefo, who secured a significant majority of votes in Subri during the last election, assured constituents that improved telecommunication infrastructure would be a priority. However, six months into his tenure, residents say the promised network mast has yet to be installed.
Speaking anonymously, an NDC activist from the area expressed disappointment over the situation. “We supported him with our votes, trusting that he would bring progress to our community. But so far, there is nothing. We need connectivity for our businesses, schools, and daily communication,” the activist lamented.
Students, nurses, and other professionals in the community said they are increasingly worried about the impact of the poor network. Many residents said they are forced to walk several kilometers to Chirano before they can make phone calls, while access to the internet remains almost impossible, affecting online businesses and learning activities.
Community leaders claimed they had previously submitted formal petitions to the MP’s office, requesting updates on the project, but allege that no concrete steps have been taken to address their concerns.
Some residents warned that if the MP does not act promptly, they will consider taking matters into their own hands. “We will have to advise ourselves if our demands are not met before next year,” stated Nana Kwame Osei, a prominent local elder.
Residents also disclosed that several government officials, including teachers and health personnel, are refusing postings to Subri because of the poor network coverage, which they say makes it difficult to perform official duties.
Local youth groups have joined the call for immediate action, emphasizing that connectivity is crucial for entrepreneurship, access to information, and social interaction among young people in Subri.
Community members lament that the continued delay in providing a network mast has left Subri lagging behind other communities in the Bibiani-Ahwiaso-Bekwai Municipality in terms of development and access to essential services.
As frustration mounts, residents continue to press for swift action, urging Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo to honour his promise and ensure that Subri in the Bibiani-Ahwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region is connected to reliable network services before the next electoral cycle.
