GAAM EXPRESSES SYMPATHY TO FLOOD VICTIMS● Urges Ghanaians to Observe Safety Measures During Rainy Season

ACCRA, June 29, 2026 – The National President of the Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM), Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank, has expressed profound sympathy to all individuals and families affected by the recent floods in various parts of Ghana. He said the Association stands in solidarity with victims who have suffered the loss of loved ones, homes, businesses, and other valuable property.

Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank, who also serves as the Assembly Member for the Asawinso A Electoral Area in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, described the flooding as a national tragedy that demands urgent attention from both government and citizens.

According to him, while heavy rainfall is a natural occurrence, many of the devastating effects of flooding can be prevented through proper planning, environmental responsibility, and strict adherence to safety measures. He noted that protecting lives should remain the country’s highest priority during the rainy season.

The GAAM National President urged Ghanaians to remain alert whenever there are heavy rains and to avoid crossing flooded roads, bridges, and drains. He stressed that no journey is worth risking one’s life and encouraged citizens to heed safety warnings issued by the authorities.

He further called on residents across the country to stop dumping refuse into gutters, streams, and drainage channels, explaining that blocked drains continue to contribute significantly to flooding in many towns and cities.

Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank also appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to intensify the desilting of drains, enforce sanitation regulations, and ensure that waterways remain free from obstructions before and during the peak rainy season.

He commended the efforts of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the security services, health workers, firefighters, and volunteers who have been working tirelessly to rescue victims and provide relief to affected communities.

The GAAM National President further appealed to government, corporate organisations, development partners, and philanthropic individuals to provide immediate relief items and financial assistance to victims to help them recover from their losses.

He emphasized that the fight against flooding requires a collective national effort and called on community leaders, traditional authorities, religious bodies, and civil society organisations to educate the public on flood prevention and disaster preparedness.

Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank assured all flood victims of the Ghana Association of Assembly Members’ support and prayers during this difficult period. He urged all Ghanaians to remain cautious throughout the rainy season, observe safety measures, and work together to build safer and more resilient communities.
