The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Aowin, Hon. Dr. Stephen Ntow Morcher, has expressed concern over the slow pace of work on sections of the Enchi–Elubo Road Project, urging the contractor responsible for the delayed stretch to accelerate construction and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.
The MCE made the call during an inspection of ongoing road projects under President John Dramani Mahama’s “Big Push” infrastructure programme, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering quality road infrastructure across the municipality.
During the inspection, Dr. Ntow Morcher visited the Pekyi–Kourdjour–Enchi Road project, which forms part of the wider road network improvement initiative. The project is being executed in two lots, with Big Aidoo Construction handling a 32-kilometre stretch, while Top International Engineering Company Ltd. is responsible for another section of the project. The visit was to assess progress and ascertain whether the contractors remain actively engaged on site.
The MCE commended Big Aidoo Construction for the quality and steady progress of work on its section, describing the contractor’s performance as impressive and in line with government expectations.
However, he expressed disappointment over the slow pace of work by Top International Engineering Company Ltd., stating that even though residents may not have technical expertise in road construction, they can clearly identify when a contractor is not performing as expected compared to others working on similar projects.
According to Dr. Ntow Morcher, once the road is completed, travelling from the area to Kumasi will become much easier and take significantly less time, adding that the project will open up economic opportunities and improve connectivity for residents.
He stated that after listening to the explanations provided by the contractor regarding the delays, he was not convinced that the reasons given were sufficient to justify the slow progress of work.
The MCE explained that the contractor had already received about GH¢80.2 million for the project, stressing that issues relating to compensation and road realignment should not be used as major reasons for delaying the project.
He urged the contractor to increase its commitment by deploying the needed equipment, personnel, and resources to speed up construction and meet the agreed completion schedule.
Dr. Ntow Morcher also appealed to residents of Boinso and other beneficiary communities to exercise patience and restraint while the project progresses, assuring them that the Municipal Assembly would continue to engage all stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of the road.
He reiterated that the Aowin Municipal Assembly would continue monitoring government projects to ensure quality delivery, accountability, and value for money under the Big Push infrastructure programme.
