Transport operators across the country have threatened to park their commercial vehicles indefinitely if the government fails to address a number of concerns affecting their operations.
The operators said the planned action would take effect if their concerns remained unresolved by September 21, 2026, warning that commercial vehicles could be withdrawn from the roads until further notice.
In a press release dated September 16, 2026, the transport operators appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene urgently and address what they described as pressing challenges confronting drivers and vehicle owners.
One of their major concerns is the increase in charges by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), which they say has increased the financial burden on transport operators.
They also raised concerns about what they described as police harassment on the roads, calling for steps to address the situation and improve relations between law enforcement officers and commercial drivers.
The operators further cited the increase in fuel prices, saying rising fuel costs are putting additional pressure on their businesses.
According to them, the government’s position on lorry fares has also made it difficult for drivers to adjust their charges in response to increasing operational expenses.
The transport operators also complained about rising spare parts prices, which they said had increased the cost of maintaining and repairing commercial vehicles.
They added that car insurance premiums had also increased, further compounding the financial difficulties confronting vehicle owners and operators.
The operators have therefore urged the President and relevant authorities to engage them and address their concerns before the September 21 deadline, stressing that failure to do so could lead to a nationwide parking of commercial vehicles until further notice.

ALL DRIVERS TO PARK THEIR VEHICLES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE – ALL TRANSPORT OPERATORS
We, the transport operators, wish to inform the general public that we intend to park all our commercial vehicles until further notice if our concerns are not addressed.
We are calling on His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana to address the following pressing issues immediately:
1. Increase in D.V.L.A. charges
2. Increase in penalty charges
3. Police harassment on our roads
4. Increase in fuel prices
5. Government not allowing an increase in lorry fares
6. Increase in spare parts prices
7. Increase in car insurance premiums
We plead with the President to address these concerns as a matter of urgency.
If these issues are not addressed by 21st September 2026, all drivers will park their cars until further notice.
