ATWIMA KWANWOMA, Ashanti Region — Tension is mounting within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency following allegations of tampering with the party’s album ahead of the upcoming constituency elections.
A group of aggrieved constituency and polling station executives, together with some aspirants, has called on the party’s leadership to investigate the alleged irregularities, warning that failure to address their concerns could undermine confidence in the electoral process and threaten party unity.
Addressing the media, the aggrieved members alleged that changes had been made to the party’s album, potentially affecting the names of legitimate party members. They expressed concern that the alleged alterations could influence the outcome of the constituency elections if not investigated before voting takes place.
The group further alleged that some individuals they considered non-members had been appointed to party positions, while the names of persons they claimed were not genuine party members had allegedly been included in the album to favour certain candidates. The allegations have not been independently verified.
The aggrieved executives said the situation was particularly troubling given the contributions of grassroots members to the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections. They argued that dedicated party members who had worked to strengthen the party should not be disadvantaged by alleged irregularities in its internal electoral arrangements.
They are therefore demanding a comprehensive review of the constituency album to establish the accuracy of its entries and identify any names allegedly substituted for those of qualified members. According to the group, such a review would help protect members’ electoral rights and promote a fair, transparent and credible election.
The group disclosed that several letters had been submitted to the Ashanti Regional Party Elections Committee to draw attention to the alleged irregularities. However, the aggrieved members claimed that their concerns had not received the necessary attention despite their efforts to obtain redress from the appropriate party authorities.
They also cited the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, among the authorities from whom they had sought intervention. The group is appealing for urgent action to ensure that the allegations are properly examined and any verified irregularities addressed before the elections.
The timing of the dispute has heightened concerns among the aggrieved members, as the constituency elections are reportedly scheduled to take place in less than a week. They fear that unresolved questions surrounding the album could deepen internal divisions, trigger further disagreements and undermine confidence in the conduct of the polls.
Among those calling for intervention are Hon. Simon Alonga, the Constituency Secretary; Mr. Opoku Bediako Kinston, a former Constituency Secretary and aspiring Constituency Secretary; and Hon. Fokuo Charles, the Youth Organiser. They are urging the NDC’s regional and national leadership to investigate the allegations, review the album and ensure that the elections are conducted in a fair and transparent manner. The party authorities’ response to the allegations was not included in the information provided.
The aggrieved members maintain that prompt and impartial action is necessary to restore confidence among party supporters and preserve unity in the constituency. With the elections approaching, attention is now on the party leadership to address the concerns and ensure that any substantiated irregularities are resolved before the polls.
