FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Techiman, Ghana – February 11, 2025

Ahaba Nduro Nkabom Kuo (ANNK), a prominent traditional medicine practitioners’ group, has publicly defended Dr. Michael Kyeremateng, Registrar of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC), amidst calls for his removal.

At a press conference addressed by T/DR Alhassan Jibril Konate, National PRO for ANNK on Tuesday February 11, 2025 at the national office in Techiman Bono East region, he said certain associations, allegedly motivated by politics, have been pushing for Dr. Kyeremateng’s removal.

However, ANNK has praised the registrar’s efforts to reform the council, citing his measures to curb fake license holders and ensure only qualified practitioners provide traditional medicine services.

T/DR. Alhassan said Dr. Kyeremateng has done an excellent job in reforming the council and promoting transparency and accountability,

“We urge all traditional medicine practitioners to rally behind him and support his efforts to develop the sector.”

According to T/DR. Alhassan Jibril Konate, Dr. Kyeremateng has implemented numerous reforms since assuming office, including:

• Reducing Fake Licenses : Dr. Kyeremateng has introduced measures to curb the operation of fake license holders, ensuring that only qualified practitioners provide traditional medicine services.
• Digital Transformation : The registrar has leveraged digital technology to reduce corruption and increase transparency within the council.
• Website Development: Dr. Kyeremateng has created a website for the Traditional Medicine Practice Council, facilitating access to information and potential partnerships with international organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO).
• Improved Revenue Management: The registrar has ensured that revenues are properly accounted for and channeled into government accounts.

Ahaba Nduro Nkabom Kuo emphasizes that the office of the registrar is not a political position and should not be subject to changes in government. The organization urges the government to maintain Dr. Kyeremateng in his position, citing the significant progress made under his leadership.
“We call on the council members to desist from attacking the good works of Dr. Kyeremateng and instead focus on supporting his efforts to promote traditional medicine practice in Ghana,” said Ahaba Nduro Nkabom Kuo.
