Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Mponua Constituency of the Ashanti Region have threatened to vote “skirt and blouse” in the 2028 general elections if the party leadership fails to conduct the constituency election by Friday.
The aggrieved members are demanding that the constituency election be held before next week’s regional elections, arguing that they should be given the opportunity to elect new constituency executives to lead the party into future political activities.
According to the coordinators, the constituency election was suspended about a month ago after an injunction was placed on three electoral areas, forcing the party to halt the entire electoral process.
They explained that since the suspension, party members have received little or no official communication regarding the way forward, creating anxiety and uncertainty among the rank and file.
Addressing the media at the Nhyinahini NPP office, the coordinators disclosed that they had received information indicating that the former constituency executives had been directed to remain in office until further notice.
The members expressed concern that retaining the former executives without conducting fresh elections would undermine internal democracy and deny delegates the right to choose their preferred leaders.
They noted that the situation has become more worrying because the party’s regional elections are scheduled to take place next week, while the Atwima Mponua Constituency remains without newly elected executives.
The coordinators appealed to the national and regional leadership of the NPP to intervene immediately and ensure that the constituency election is organized before Friday to restore confidence among members.
They warned that any further delay could deepen divisions within the constituency and negatively affect party unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The members stressed that if their concerns are ignored, many supporters may resort to voting “skirt and blouse” in the 2028 polls as a protest against what they describe as the party leadership’s failure to address their grievances.
