The Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Alhaji Hassan Ayariga, has raised concerns over what he describes as the gradual erosion of Ghanaian ownership and control of economic opportunities to foreigners.
According to him, urgent national action is required to safeguard Ghanaian interests in critical areas including land ownership, businesses, natural resources, jobs and economic opportunities.
Dr. Ayariga warned that Ghanaian citizens risk becoming spectators in their own country if deliberate measures are not introduced to increase local participation and ownership across key sectors of the economy.
In a statement, the APC Leader stressed that his concerns should not be interpreted as hostility towards foreigners, explaining that Ghana welcomes legitimate investors and businesses that contribute positively to national development.
However, he insisted that Ghanaian ownership, participation and economic empowerment must remain at the heart of the country’s development agenda.
Dr. Ayariga called on the government to strengthen existing laws, enforce them fairly and create a business environment that protects local enterprises while promoting healthy competition.
He also urged authorities to introduce policies that would enable young Ghanaians to access capital, acquire land lawfully, establish businesses and compete effectively in the economy.
The APC Leader expressed concern that without adequate safeguards, Ghana’s economic future could gradually be influenced by external interests at the expense of local citizens.
He called for a broader national dialogue on balancing foreign investment with the need to empower Ghanaian businesses and preserve the country’s resources for future generations.
“Ghana belongs to Ghanaians, and our economic future must not be surrendered gradually,” Dr. Ayariga stated, urging stakeholders to take immediate steps to protect the country’s economic sovereignty.

We are gradually losing Ghana to foreigners.
We must take a serious look at what is happening to our land, businesses, natural resources, jobs, and economic opportunities. Ghanaian citizens should not become spectators in their own country while foreigners increasingly control key sectors of our economy.
This is not about hostility towards foreigners. Ghana welcomes legitimate investors and businesses. However, Ghanaian ownership, participation and economic empowerment must remain at the centre of our national development.
Our government must strengthen the laws, enforce them fairly, protect Ghanaian businesses, and create an environment where young Ghanaians can own businesses, access capital, acquire land lawfully, and compete on a level playing field.
We must act now. Ghana belongs to Ghanaians, and our economic future must not be surrendered gradually.
