BAB: FORMER SURANO ASSEMBLY MEMBER DECRIES POOR DEVELOPMENT IN COMMUNITY●ACCUSES AUTHORITIES OF FEEBLE PERFORMANCE

The former Assembly Member of Surano, a community in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, Hon. Obiri Agyarko, has expressed concern over poor sanitation and what he described as a lack of development in the community.

According to him, the current Assembly Member has not introduced or facilitated enough progressive initiatives to improve the living conditions of residents since assuming office.

Hon. Agyarko said several promises made to the people during the election campaign had yet to materialise, leaving residents disappointed over the pace of development in the community.

He cited poor sanitation and the lack of employment opportunities for the youth as some of the major concerns confronting Surano, stressing the need for initiatives that would create jobs and improve livelihoods.

The former Assembly Member said a refuse dump that had previously posed a serious challenge to the community was dealt with during his tenure, but had now returned and expanded to the extent that it had, according to him, encroached on a church building.

He also expressed concern over what he described as the growing menace of illegal mining in the area, saying the activity had become a major challenge requiring urgent attention from the relevant authorities.

Hon. Agyarko further mentioned the shortage of potable water as another pressing concern facing residents and called for practical measures to address the water and other developmental challenges confronting Surano and its surrounding communities.

He urged residents of Surano and the surrounding communities to carefully assess the performance and promises of candidates ahead of next year’s Assembly elections and vote wisely in choosing their next representative.
