The Motorcycle Couriers Union of Ghana expresses heartfelt gratitude to Osman Ayariga, CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA), for acknowledging and supporting the union, especially during the Africa Youth Day celebrations. We appreciate your encouragement for the youth to take an active role in national growth and development.
We also echo the Youth Ministry’s appeal to the youth to avoid destructive habits such as gambling and substance abuse, and to focus instead on contributing positively to the nation’s progress.
As a union, we identify with the struggles of entrepreneurs such as tailors and hairdressers, who rely on government support to thrive. We appeal to the NYA CEO and the Youth Ministry to also include us in the national sponsorship programs.
Regarding the police’s call for citizens to record videos for accountability, we commend the initiative. As a union, we have advised our members to use secret cameras to protect themselves, especially in situations where their rights might be compromised, such as at the Tesano Police Station. We suggest using apps that automatically upload footage, ensuring that evidence is preserved even if devices are damaged or confiscated.
We also appeal to our regulators to invest in us and not to see the commission as a certificate-issuing department only. As a union, we believe in regulation, but the regulation must be fair and beneficial to the citizens.
