Hon. Frank Nelson Ackah, National President of the Ghana Association of Agriculturalists and Agribusiness Members (GAAM), has congratulated students who have gained admission into Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country, while commending the government for its efforts to expand access to secondary education.
Hon. Ackah, on behalf of the Association, extended warm congratulations to the newly admitted students and urged them to embrace the opportunity with seriousness, discipline and determination as they begin a new chapter in their educational journey.
He noted that gaining admission to SHS was only the beginning, stressing that students must develop good study habits, respect school authorities and remain focused on their academic work to achieve their educational goals.
He also encouraged parents and guardians to provide the necessary support for their children, saying the success of students requires cooperation among parents, teachers, school authorities and the students themselves.
Hon. Ackah applauded the government for policies aimed at widening access to secondary education, noting that providing more young Ghanaians with opportunities to attend SHS could contribute significantly to human capital development.
However, he called on the Ministry of Education to urgently put measures in place to address the challenges associated with the school placement process, which he said continues to create anxiety and frustration for students and parents.
He noted that difficulties surrounding the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), particularly issues relating to school choices, placements and changes, needed urgent attention to make the process smoother, transparent and efficient.
Hon. Ackah therefore urged the Ministry and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen the placement system and improve communication with parents and students. He stressed that while GAAM congratulates the new SHS entrants and commends the government for expanding access, there is an urgent need to end the recurring placement woes and create a more student-friendly system.
