Accra, 25 November 2025 – The NDC Youth Force has renewed calls for the immediate resignation of Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, citing a “failed mandate” and widespread inefficiency at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). The youth wing says the move is necessary to prevent further national embarrassment and restore public confidence in the anti-corruption agency.
In a press statement released today, the group noted that despite the OSP receiving substantial budget allocations, the office has failed to produce tangible results. “It is unacceptable that an institution tasked with fighting corruption continues to underperform despite millions of cedis in public funding,” the statement said.
Since his appointment in 2021, Mr. Agyebeng’s tenure has been characterized by controversy and delays in prosecuting high-profile cases. Investigations into alleged financial misconduct by former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta, the SML scandal, and several procurement frauds remain unresolved or stalled in court, raising questions about the office’s effectiveness.
The NDC Youth Force also criticized the continuous revisions of charge sheets and the absence of successful convictions, which they say undermine the credibility of the OSP. “Ghanaian taxpayers deserve better. The resources allocated to the OSP should translate into accountability and justice, not excuses and inaction,” the statement added.
The youth group further highlighted that Ghana allocated over GH₵149 million to the OSP in 2024 alone, covering employee salaries, goods and services, and capital expenditure. Yet, there has been no recovery of significant public funds nor landmark prosecutions to justify the spending.
Calling for decisive action, the NDC Youth Force urged President John Mahama and the government to either remove Mr. Agyebeng from office or initiate urgent reforms, including a thorough audit and restructuring of the OSP. “Ghana cannot continue down this path of institutional failure. The country deserves an anti-corruption agency that is transparent, effective, and accountable,” the statement stressed.
The group is also appealing to citizens and stakeholders to join in demanding accountability and meaningful reforms to ensure the OSP fulfills its mandate.
The NDC Youth Force concluded its statement by emphasizing the need for robust leadership in tackling corruption and safeguarding public resources.
