Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Amenfi East, Hon. Frederick Korankye, has declared Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most saleable candidate within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stressing that no other aspirant matches his competence, humility, and national appeal.
According to him, the recent appreciation of the cedi and gains in Ghana’s economic stability are anchored on strong foundations laid by Dr. Bawumia during his stewardship as head of the Economic Management Team. He noted that Ghanaians have come to recognize Bawumia as a practical problem-solver who delivers results rather than empty promises.
Hon. Korankye further argued that if not for the dictates of democracy, the NPP would have long endorsed Dr. Bawumia unopposed as its flagbearer, considering his proven track record and unifying image within the party and beyond. He emphasized that in politics, consistency is a key factor, and Ghanaians will naturally question the credibility of a new candidate presented by the NPP. Therefore, he maintained, the party must hold on to Dr. Bawumia as the credible, trusted, and consistent face to lead them into the 2028 elections.
He took a swipe at other aspirants who, according to him, have resorted to hate speech and divisive rhetoric, cautioning that such tactics only weaken the party’s front. He praised Dr. Bawumia as a humble, respectful, and visionary leader who engages Ghanaians with solutions rather than insults.
The former MCE outlined key attributes that make the Vice President a stronger contender — his personality, his forward-looking vision for Ghana’s development, and his ability to attract sympathy votes from ordinary Ghanaians who see him as a true grassroots leader. He emphasized that these qualities prove Bawumia to be more saleable than any of his competitors.
Backing his claims with data, Hon. Korankye pointed out that Dr. Bawumia’s popularity ratings across different demographics — from professionals to market women, students, and rural communities — clearly demonstrate he is a winnable candidate. He challenged critics who claim the Vice President has lost support in Zongo communities, insisting they provide concrete evidence. “It is all propaganda and cannot be supported by facts,” he stressed.
The outspoken former MCE also descended heavily on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, accusing it of deceiving Ghanaians with lies on issues such as the cedi, cocoa prices, and economic indicators just to win political favor. He maintained that the NDC’s lack of credibility will be exposed in the next general elections.
He further criticized the operations of the Gold Board, stating that unlike COCOBOD, it has no clear policy direction and rather appears to be encouraging illegal mining (galamsey). According to him, President John Mahama, who once fought the NPP fiercely, has shown no vision in addressing the galamsey menace but instead appears to be promoting it.
Hon. Korankye also said the President must be up and doing and tackle insecurities in his hometown, which for the first time in history has become an albatross for the country.
He therefore called on NPP delegates to come together, avoid attacking one another, and remain united after the 2026 primaries so that the party can secure a peaceful and decisive victory in the 2028 elections.
Concluding his remarks, the former MCE reiterated that the future of the NPP and Ghana lies in rallying behind a competent, humble, and marketable candidate — and said, “Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is that leader.”
He stressed that in response to the upcoming party primaries in 2026, Dr. Bawumia stands tall among all aspirants as the clear choice to lead the NPP into victory in 2028.
