OTU DARKO QUESTIONS NPP’S MORAL AUTHORITY TO ATTACK MAHAMA’S GOV’T! ● Recalls alleged NPP-era scandals, demands accountability

Nana Otu Darko, an aspirant for the position of Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned the moral authority of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to criticise the John Dramani Mahama-led government over issues of public expenditure and accountability.

In a strongly worded Facebook post on November 5, 2026, Mr Otu Darko accused some leading NPP figures of displaying double standards in their criticism of the current administration, arguing that those associated with controversies under the previous government must also be prepared to answer questions about their records in office.

He particularly questioned criticisms directed at the government’s expenditure on the evacuation of Ghanaians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa, arguing that public spending should be assessed consistently rather than through partisan political lenses.

Mr Otu Darko also referenced controversies surrounding expenditure on funeral arrangements for George Floyd, as mentioned in his post, to highlight what he considers inconsistencies in the opposition’s approach to public accountability.

Recalling several controversies associated with the previous NPP administration, the NDC communicator cited the Power Distribution Services (PDS) controversy, the National Service Scheme (NSS) scandal, the Australian visa fraud controversy and the Cash-for-Seats saga.

He further mentioned the proposed Sky Train project, expenditure surrounding the All Africa Games, the Pwalugu Dam project, including a reported US$12 million expenditure, and the National Cathedral project, which he associated with a reported US$97 million expenditure.

The NDC aspirant also raised concerns about the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), arguing that its economic consequences imposed significant financial hardships on thousands of Ghanaians, including investors and other affected stakeholders.5

According to him, these controversies should not be forgotten simply because political power has changed hands. He maintained that the demand for accountability must extend to all political administrations and should be pursued through credible investigations, transparent prosecutions and the recovery of public funds where wrongdoing is established.

On the prosecution of individuals implicated in alleged financial improprieties, Mr Otu Darko expressed disappointment over what he described as delays in investigations and legal proceedings, warning that prolonged processes could weaken public confidence in the country’s accountability institutions.

He therefore called on investigative and prosecutorial agencies to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without fear or favour, insisting that the fight against corruption must be guided by evidence, due process and the rule of law rather than political vendettas. He concluded with a call on Ghanaians to demand accountability from every government, irrespective of political affiliation, adding emphatically: “Justice Is Coming Soon.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NANA OTU DARKO QUESTIONS NPP’S MORAL AUTHORITY TO CRITICISE MAHAMA GOVERNMENT, RECALLS ALLEGED CORRUPTION SCANDALS UNDER FORMER ADMINISTRATION

Accra, Ghana – November 5, 2026

Nana Otu Darko, the NDC’s Deputy National Communications Officer hopeful, has questioned what he describes as the moral authority of leading figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to position themselves as champions of accountability while criticising the John Dramani Mahama-led government.

In a strongly worded Facebook post, Nana Otu Darko expressed frustration over what he considers the selective application of accountability and the apparent double standards exhibited by some opposition figures in their public commentary on governance and national expenditure.

He argued that Ghana’s fight against corruption must not be reduced to political convenience, whereby individuals who previously served in government or are associated with controversial public expenditure suddenly assume the posture of moral authorities without addressing questions surrounding their own political administration.

QUESTIONABLE MORAL HIGH GROUND AND SELECTIVE ACCOUNTABILITY

Nana Otu Darko took particular exception to criticisms directed at the government’s expenditure on the evacuation of Ghanaians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

He questioned the apparent contradiction between those criticising the government’s evacuation expenditure and the controversies surrounding expenditure on the funeral arrangements for George Floyd, which he referenced in his Facebook post.5

According to him, public accountability must be consistent, impartial and devoid of political hypocrisy.

He maintained that it is unacceptable for political actors to demand transparency from the current administration while conveniently overlooking questions about expenditure and controversies associated with their own period in office.

NPP-ERA SCANDALS MUST NOT BE SWEPT UNDER THE CARPET

In his post, Nana Otu Darko recalled several controversies and scandals associated with the previous NPP administration, which he believes deserve sustained public attention and appropriate institutional scrutiny.

Among the issues he highlighted were:

The Power Distribution Services (PDS) controversy.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) scandal.

The Australian visa fraud controversy.

The Cash-for-Seats controversy.

The proposed Sky Train project.

The All Africa Games expenditure controversy.

The Pwalugu Dam project and the reported US$12 million expenditure.

The National Cathedral project and the reported US$97 million expenditure.

The economic consequences of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), which he argues caused significant financial hardship for thousands of Ghanaians.

He stressed that these matters should not disappear from the national conversation simply because political power has changed hands.

For Nana Otu Darko, the demand for accountability must extend beyond political propaganda and social media exchanges to credible investigations, transparent prosecutions and the recovery of any public funds found to have been unlawfully acquired.

DELAYED JUSTICE MUST NOT BECOME DENIED JUSTICE

The NDC Deputy National Communications Officer hopeful further expressed disappointment over what he perceives as delays in prosecuting individuals implicated in alleged financial improprieties.5

He argued that prolonged investigations and delayed prosecutions risk creating public perceptions that politically connected individuals can escape accountability.

He therefore called on the relevant investigative and prosecutorial institutions to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without fear, favour or political interference.

He emphasised that the fight against corruption must be guided by evidence, due process and the rule of law rather than political vendettas.

GHANAIANS DESERVE CONSISTENCY, NOT POLITICAL THEATRE

Concluding his remarks, Nana Otu Darko maintained that Ghana deserves a political culture in which accountability is universal and not selectively applied to suit partisan interests.

He urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and demand answers from every administration, regardless of political affiliation.

He reiterated that public office is a responsibility, not a licence to abuse public resources, and that no individual or political party should be above accountability.

As captured in the closing sentiment of his Facebook post:

“Justice Is Coming Soon.”
