FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Subject: Drawing the attention of Hon. Regional Minister and the Regional Executives to some two Appointments made in the Constituency and the related developments.
To All Media Houses, Political Stakeholders, and the General Public,
I write with deep regret to draw the attention of the Hon. Regional Minister and all Regional Executives concerning the processes that led to the appointments of the Municipal’s representative on the Regional Lands Commission Board and the Municipal Director for the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in the Amenfi East Constituency.
As the Constituency Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Amenfi East, it is very worrying and pathetic to recount that the aforementioned appointments were made in secrecy, in an unfair and unjust manner, and without the notice of the nine core Constituency Executives.
I wish to use this medium to emphatically state that the said appointments were made without proper consultation with the Constituency Chairman, Secretary, Women’s Organizer, Youth Organizer, Treasurer, Organizer, Communication Officer, and the Zongo Caucus. This is a complete disrespect and disregard for our party’s conventions and protocols.
1. Appointment of a Municipal’s representative on Regional Lands Commission Board.
Immediately my attention was drawn to this matter, I quickly called the MCE, Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah, to respectfully inquire about the rumors surrounding such an appointment. The MCE categorically stated that he was aware and had submitted one person called McLean for the appointment, claiming it was his slot.
I further contacted the Hon. Regional Minister for the Western Region to determine the propriety of the MCE’s actions. The Hon. Minister stated that the MCE should not have acted unilaterally and that such decisions should be taken in consultation with party hierarchies (Constituency Executives and the Member of Parliament). The MCE’s actions were unacceptable and undermined the structures, protocols, and authorities of our party.
2. Appointment of YEA Director, Amenfi East.
The party has conventions that are observed internally during appointments. These conventions were communicated by the Regional Directorate of our party and relevant stakeholders. However, the appointment of Mr. Alidu Dramani as Municipal Director of YEA for Amenfi East was made without consultation with the Constituency Executives.
During the official announcement of YEA appointments at the Western Regional Office, all 17 Constituency Youth Organizers were present, and it was explicitly stated that no appointment had been made for Amenfi East. The Regional Directorate cautioned that no person should hold themselves as the Amenfi East Municipal Director for YEA until a decision was reached and communicated accordingly.
3. Disrespect and litany of insults rained on Amenfi East Constituency Executives.
Some party members believed to be associates of the MCE have repeatedly insulted Constituency party hierarchies and issued threats on secret platforms, including the “Asikuma platform.” Evidence of such insults and threats is attached for verification.
These developments have highlighted tensions in the Constituency, and the Youth are aggrieved, threatening to embark on demonstrations to register their displeasure. They believe the Hon. MCE is behind these malicious appointments and is using divide-and-rule tactics to achieve his parochial interests.
I urge the Hon. Regional Minister, Regional Executives, National Executives of our Party, and His Excellency the President of the Republic to immediately address these matters to forestall peace in the Constituency.
Thank you for your attention.
Signed,
Nana Kofi Atokyi
