PRESS STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JANUARY 8, 2025
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern Region unequivocally condemns the shameful and lawless acts perpetrated by thugs mobilized by some NDC constituency executives on January 8, 2025. These thugs stormed several government institutions in the New Juaben Municipality, including the Municipal Assembly, NHIA Regional and Municipal Offices, NADMO Offices, YEA Offices, and the School Feeding Office, to terrorize workers, lock offices, and unlawfully claim these spaces in the name of the NDC.
This reprehensible conduct is not only a blatant disregard for the rule of law but also a dangerous threat to the peace and stability of our democracy. Such acts of violence and intimidation have no place in a civilized society and must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians.
We call on the Ghana Police Service to immediately take action to:
1. Protect all government workers and institutions from any further acts of aggression.
2. Apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators of these heinous acts to the fullest extent of the law.
The police must demonstrate their commitment to maintaining law and order and assure Ghanaians that no individual or group is above the law.
We urge President John Mahama and the National Executives of the NDC to publicly condemn these violent acts, call their thugs to order, and caution their members against engaging in such criminal behavior. The NDC must demonstrate responsible leadership and show that they are committed to protecting Ghana’s democracy and peace.
We wish to make it clear that failure by the NDC leadership to reign in their supporters will leave the NPP with no choice but to take steps to protect ourselves, our members, and government workers from further harm. We caution that if the NDC continues to promote violence, the NPP will arm and defend our people to ensure their safety.
The NPP remains committed to peace, law, and order in our beloved nation. However, we will not sit idle while innocent workers are attacked and our institutions are undermined by political thuggery. We urge all Ghanaians to reject this lawlessness and support efforts to maintain peace and order in the country.
Thank you.
