WNR CHIEF IMAM CELEBRATES RAWLINGS LEGACY, SEEKS SUPPORT FOR MUSLIM COMMUNITY

The Coordinator to the Western North Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Halidu, has paid glowing tribute to the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a perfect woman who stood firmly behind her husband, the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, throughout his political and national journey.

Speaking on behalf of the Western North Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Halidu said the passing of Madam Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings is not only a loss to the Rawlings family but also to the entire nation, especially the underprivileged women and children whose lives were touched by her generosity and leadership. He described her as a symbol of virtue, strength, and humility who supported her husband in transforming Ghana politically, socially, and economically.

He further lauded former President Rawlings for his enduring legacy in northern Ghana, where he promoted development and political inclusion in regions that were once neglected. According to him, Rawlings inspired confidence and unity among the people of the north, enabling many to serve the nation with pride and purpose. “Rawlings planted something unique in the north — a spirit of belief, confidence, and unity,” he stated.

Alhaji Halidu also used the occasion to call for peace and unity in Ghana’s political space. He emphasized that politics should unite rather than divide citizens, urging Ghanaians to rise above partisan hatred and insults. “We can have different political views, but we are still one people under one God,” he stressed.

Citing the Holy Qur’an, the Coordinator cautioned against spreading lies and falsehoods for political gain, describing such acts as sins against Allah. He reminded the public that honesty, respect, and truth must guide national discourse to ensure peace and progress.

Beyond his tribute, Alhaji Halidu appealed to government and benevolent individuals to support the expansion of the Western North Regional Chief Imam’s Office Complex to better serve the growing Muslim community. He noted that the office has been instrumental in community support projects, including the provision of boreholes, but lacks adequate space and logistics. He also urged the establishment of an Islamic Senior High School in the region to promote moral and educational development among Muslim youth.
