A tertiary students’ association in the Amenfi Central Constituency, known as The Icons, has commended the Member of Parliament, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, for her immense contributions to empowerment, infrastructure, education, and economic development across the constituency. The group described her leadership as visionary and people-focused, noting that her initiatives continue to uplift thousands of residents.

The Icons stated that Hon. Joana Gyan’s interventions have become a lifeline for women, the aged, the youth, and persons without formal educational backgrounds. They emphasised that the MP’s style of development is practical and tailored to the needs of the constituency, making her one of the most impactful leaders the area has seen in recent times.
A major highlight of her empowerment agenda is the distribution of 2,000 sewing machines and 2,000 hair dryers to women eager to acquire vocational skills. This intervention will enable the beneficiaries to achieve financial independence in the near future and cater for their families.
The group added that Hon. Joana Gyan has for years championed skills training, entrepreneurship, and women’s empowerment. They noted that many beneficiaries of her programmes are already running profitable ventures, proving that hands-on empowerment remains one of the most effective tools for reducing poverty in rural communities.
The Icons also praised the MP for her support to elderly women in the constituency. They revealed that she pays more than 70 aged women engaged in a cabbage plantation project—an initiative that provides the elderly with a stable income while contributing to food production in the area.
In the area of education, the student group highlighted Hon. Joana Gyan’s consistent payment of school fees for university students from Level 100 to Level 400. They also commended her for supporting needy but brilliant students at different educational levels, saying her commitment is helping to build a more educated and skilled youth population.
They further noted the establishment of the District Assembly Education Fund, an initiative introduced to boost academic performance and support schools within the constituency. The Icons described the fund as a strategic investment that will produce long-lasting benefits for generations.
Touching on infrastructure, the students applauded the MP for reshaping feeder roads that had been abandoned for decades. They indicated that her strong advocacy and lobbying efforts have led to the commencement of major road projects, including the Asankrangwa–Agona 50km stretch and other critical routes.
Residents, especially farmers and transport operators, have expressed satisfaction with the improved roads, stating that travel time has reduced significantly and the transportation of cocoa, foodstuffs, and goods has become more efficient. The Icons said these developments are already boosting economic activities across the municipality.
The group also acknowledged the establishment of the Amenfi Central Cooperative Credit Union, set up through the MP’s leadership to provide soft loans and financial literacy to farmers, traders, and young entrepreneurs. They noted that the credit union is helping many residents access capital that was previously out of reach.
Perhaps the most celebrated of her initiatives, according to The Icons, is the construction of the Agona Amenfi Block Factory. They described it as the most magnificent project in the constituency, noting that it has created massive employment opportunities for the youth, many of whom rely on the factory for their daily income.
The Icons concluded by calling on traditional leaders and development partners to support Hon. Joana Gyan’s ongoing development efforts. They stated that her commitment to service, empowerment, and community upliftment is gradually transforming Amenfi Central into a model constituency for grassroots development.
