Hon. Justice Cobbinah Jnr, Assembly Member for the Shama Etsifi Electoral Area in the western region, has initiated the Heal Shama Youth Center Project, aimed at providing a recreational center and empowerment hub for the youth.
The 500-capacity youth center will focus on youth employment, skills development, and capacity building, serving as a safe space for young people to engage in productive activities and unlock their potential.
In an interview with the press, Hon. Justice Cobbinah Jnr. revealed that the project, launched four years ago, has been abandoned and is in dire need of funding to complete.
He expressed gratitude to Nana Kwaw Fraiku IV, the Overlord of the Shama traditional area, for donating GHC 100,000 to support the renovation work. However, he noted that a substantial amount of GHC 300,000 is still needed to complete the project.
The Assembly Member appealed to stakeholders, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals to support the initiative and help bring it to fruition.
He emphasized that the completed youth center will boost the local economy by creating employment opportunities and other business avenues.
The project has garnered support from key stakeholders, including the Member of Parliament for Shama, who also serves as the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The current and former Members of Parliament for Shama have also played significant roles in supporting the project, providing financial assistance and advocating for its importance.
Their collective efforts demonstrate a shared commitment to empowering the youth and driving development in Shama, paving the way for long-term benefits.
Nana Kwaw Fraiku IV’s contributions, including the establishment of the Osagyefo Kwaw Fraiku Educational Foundation, underscore the importance of education and youth empowerment in driving community development and growth in Shama.
