Mr Thomas Mintah, popularly known as Obosom, the newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman for Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region, has vowed to work towards increasing the party’s victory margin in the constituency in the 2028 general elections.
He said unity, teamwork and effective grassroots mobilisation would be central to his leadership agenda as he seeks to consolidate the party’s support base and strengthen its structures ahead of the 2028 polls.
In an interview with the Daily Times Newspaper following the successful constituency elections, Mr Mintah called on party members to put aside their differences and work together towards achieving their collective political objectives.
He described the constituency election as a family affair, explaining that all contestants belonged to the same political family and shared a common goal of advancing the NDC’s interests. He, therefore, urged members to regard the election as an opportunity to strengthen their bond rather than create divisions within the party.
Mr Mintah stressed that the internal election was over and that there was no need for continued disagreements among members, emphasising that the party’s collective interest must take precedence over individual ambitions.
“We have won together, and we are ready to work together as one family. This was an internal election, so there is no need for us to fight among ourselves. We are one team, and we must move forward together,” he said.
He acknowledged the contributions of party elders and other experienced members, assuring them that their knowledge, skills and expertise would be harnessed to strengthen the party in the constituency.
According to him, Sefwi Wiawso has several experienced party members whose contributions would be essential to building a united front, improving grassroots mobilisation and enhancing the party’s engagement with voters.
The newly elected chairman further pledged to adopt an inclusive leadership approach that would provide opportunities for all members, including those who contested the constituency election unsuccessfully, to contribute to the party’s development.
He said his ultimate objective was to help the NDC retain the Sefwi Wiawso parliamentary seat and secure victory in the presidential election in 2028, while maintaining or improving the approximately 9,000-vote margin he attributed to the efforts of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Kofi Benteh.
Mr Mintah also pledged to intensify community engagement by visiting various communities, explaining government policies to residents and collating their concerns for onward submission to the appropriate authorities for consideration and possible solutions.
Describing grassroots members as the backbone of the party, he assured them of an accessible leadership style, promising to work closely with constituency executives, party elders, polling station officers and supporters.
“I do not want to become an armchair chairman. I will go to the communities and work with the people. My doors will always be open to all party members, and I assure everyone that we will work hand in hand to achieve our common goal,” he added.
He expressed confidence that a united and well-organised constituency would be better positioned to pursue the party’s electoral objectives in 2028.
