Apostle John Erezola, President of the PRO Ambassadors for Christ Council and founder of the Gilgal School of the Bible in Techiman, Bono East Region, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to cancel the proposed re-run of the Ablekuma North district-level election. He describes the re-run as unnecessary and a potential source of confusion and disunity.
Speaking in an interview with the press, Apostle Erezola argued that it is not appropriate for only one political party to participate in a democratic process meant to reflect broad representation, since the NPP has decided to bow out. He cautioned that such a scenario could spark tension and mistrust among residents and create fertile ground for post-election conflicts.
He further noted that even within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), some supporters may not fully understand the purpose of the re-run and may vote out of confusion, which could ultimately work against the party’s own interests. “The NPP is making a mistake by not going ahead with this re-run. Misunderstandings among its base could lead a few supporters to vote, which could have the consequence of losing,” he said.
Apostle Erezola urged the President to instead focus on development and governance through cooperation with the District Chief Executive (DCE). He stressed that political rivalries and re-runs only delay critical development projects and create needless distractions from the needs of the people.
“The President and the DCE should work together to bring roads, jobs, and essential services to the people. That is what the constituency needs—not another round of voting,” he appealed.
As a clergyman and community leader, Apostle Erezola emphasized the importance of peace and unity in national development. He expressed concern that prolonged political contestation at the local level would erode public trust and destabilize progress in the area.
He further stated that, as the father of the nation, President Mahama has a responsibility to act swiftly to prevent potential electoral chaos. “Ghana needs peace and stability. The President must step in to prevent confusion before it escalates,” he urged.
Apostle Erezola warned that allowing the re-run to proceed in its current form would be a missed opportunity for statesmanship and consensus-building. “True leadership is not just about managing elections but about knowing when to intervene for the greater good,” he said.
He therefore made a passionate appeal to President Mahama to use his office to halt the process and direct national attention toward development rather than division. “I humbly appeal to His Excellency to act now. The people of Ablekuma North deserve progress, not political infighting,” he concluded.
