BAB: LEARNERS IN PERIL AT AGING ANHWIASO SCHOOL BLOCK●ASSEMBLY MEMBER CRIES OVER NEGLECT

ANHWIASO, WESTERN NORTH REGION — Learners at a public school in Anhwiaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality are studying under worrying conditions as the school’s aging classroom block continues to deteriorate.

The structure has developed visible cracks, peeling plaster, a rusty corrugated roof, and broken doors and windows, raising concerns about the safety of pupils and teachers who use the facility daily.

The Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Sampson Gyapong, has raised the alarm over what he described as prolonged neglect of the school infrastructure, warning that the deteriorating condition could pose serious risks to learners, particularly during the rainy season.

The single-storey classroom block, supported by wooden pillars on a raised concrete veranda, shows extensive signs of deterioration, including damp patches and damaged sections of the walls. Some of the windows and doors are also in poor condition and require urgent attention.

The condition of the school premises has reportedly become a source of concern among residents and parents, who fear that the poor learning environment could affect both the safety and educational experience of the children.

Hon. Sampson Gyapong, who inspected the facility, called on the Ghana Education Service, the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly and other relevant stakeholders to urgently intervene to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.

He said repeated appeals for the renovation or reconstruction of the classroom block had yielded little result, leaving the community increasingly frustrated over the condition of the facility.

The Assembly Member stressed that providing safe and decent learning facilities should be treated as a priority, particularly because the school plays an important role in providing basic education to children in the Anhwiaso community.
