Ahead of next year’s flagbearer polls, Western North Regional Campaign Coordinator for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr. William Benjamin Assuah, says the former Vice President and 2028 flagbearer hopeful is gaining significant support in the region.
Commenting on developments under the NPP government, Mr. Assuah noted that much of the region’s progress and infrastructure improvements were achieved under the Nana Addo–Bawumia administration. He highlighted that the Western North Region, created during the NPP era, continues to benefit from these initiatives, giving the party a strategic advantage in upcoming elections. “With our current one seat in the region, Dr. Bawumia can help the party secure more constituencies,” he added.
He pointed out that decentralizing regional offices, previously concentrated in Takoradi, has spurred development, improved infrastructure, and created employment opportunities across the region.
Reflecting on the 2024 general elections, Mr. Assuah clarified that the party’s loss was not due to Dr. Bawumia but rather the anger and frustration of certain segments of the populace.
He also emphasized Dr. Bawumia’s role in driving nationwide digitalization initiatives, including the DVLA and Zipline projects, which have attracted international attention and benefited Ghanaians across Western North.
Optimistic about a second term, Mr. Assuah noted that no presidential candidate in Ghana’s history has won on their first attempt, citing former Presidents Kufuor, Mills, Nana Addo, and Mahama. He stressed the importance of fielding strong candidates, adding: “There is no benefit in bringing an unmarketable candidate who becomes a burden to the party. A well-groomed and economically sound candidate like Dr. Bawumia will lead the party to the Promised Land.”
He called on the masses and delegates to rally behind Dr. Bawumia, emphasizing that their support is crucial for him to win the flagbearer race . “Dr. Bawumia is already a highly marketable candidate, which places him ahead of other contenders in the race,” he said.
Mr. Assuah further urged unity among party members, reminding them that there is no permanent enemy in politics. “Together, we can win big for the NPP and take the country to the Promised Land,” he added.
He concluded by reaffirming confidence that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and agenda will strengthen the NPP’s position in Western North and position the party for victory in the forthcoming elections.
