The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Suaman Constituency, Hon. Fred Addy, has supported over 600 Junior High School (JHS) leavers from the constituency who have gained admission to Senior High School (SHS) with essential educational items to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians.
The items donated included mattresses, trunks, chop boxes, pens and other essential educational materials to help the beneficiaries prepare adequately for their SHS education. Hon. Addy said the intervention was in fulfilment of a promise he made some time ago to provide such items to JHS leavers to support their transition into SHS.
Speaking at the presentation, Hon. Addy said he was pleased to have fulfilled the promise, adding that the initiative was the first of its kind in the constituency to be funded from the MP’s Common Fund. He said the intervention formed part of his commitment to supporting education and improving the welfare of constituents.
He used the occasion to account to the people on some of the interventions undertaken since he assumed office, stressing that accountability to constituents was an important responsibility of an elected representative.
According to Hon. Addy, his office had worked closely with the Education Directorate to identify educational needs and plan the utilisation of the Social Intervention Fund (SIF) to address some of the challenges confronting schools and students in the constituency.
He further disclosed that the Nipa Hiamoa community was benefiting from an educational project being supported through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), adding that other interventions were being pursued to improve educational infrastructure in the area.
Touching on health and sanitation, the MP said he had supported the construction of a CHPS compound at Kwabenakrom to bring basic healthcare services closer to residents. He also mentioned the provision of a power plant, incubator and eye-care equipment, among other interventions, as measures to strengthen healthcare delivery in the constituency.
Hon. Addy also disclosed that 23 mechanised boreholes had been provided in various communities as part of efforts to improve access to potable water. He stressed that no individual had the authority to withdraw or divert resources from the MP’s Common Fund without due process, insisting that he would not allow resources meant for constituency development to be misused.
Looking ahead, Hon. Addy said constituents should expect “supersonic development” in 2027, indicating that more development projects and interventions would be rolled out to accelerate the transformation of the constituency. He expressed appreciation to Nananom, the Education Directorate, health authorities, party officials, supporters and other stakeholders for their cooperation and prompt response in facilitating development projects across the constituency.
The MP appealed to constituents to continue supporting development efforts in Suaman, saying that although he had spent only a few years in office, significant development had already been recorded. He urged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and make good use of the opportunity provided to them.
