SEFWI BANKROMISA GETS NEW ODIKRO:Nana Kwadwo Gyapong Ababio Installed by Elders and Kingmakers

Following the demise of Nana Kofi Sebe, the then Odikro of Bankromisa, it was up to the elders and kingmakers to nominate and select a new royal to be installed as the Odikro of the town, Bankromisa, in the Sefwi Bekwai traditional area.

Upon a series of meetings between the royals and the kingmakers, they settled on Nana Kwadwo Gyapong Ababio, a businessman, as the new Odikro. The Bankromisa Odikro stool is a prerogative right of the Odeneho Gyapong Ababio gate of the Ekoona royal family to nominate and install a royal as Odikro of the town.

Nana Kofi Ahenkorah, the customary successor and head of the said gate, upon consultation with his nephew, Nana Kofi Kintoh, and brother, OP. Kofi Asamoah, arrived at Nana Kwadwo Gyapong Ababio as the preferred candidate.

On the 10th of March 2025, all the necessary rituals and customs were put underway in the town to fill the vacant Odikro position of Bankromisa.

BRIEF:

Installing an Odikro is a significant milestone for any community, as it provides a sense of leadership, direction, and continuity. The Odikro serves as the custodian of the community’s traditions, customs, and values, ensuring that they are preserved and passed down to future generations.

The Odikro also plays a vital role in promoting peace, unity, and development within the community. As the chief leader, the Odikro helps to resolve disputes, promotes reconciliation, and fosters a sense of belonging among community members. This, in turn, creates a conducive environment for social, economic, and cultural development.

Furthermore, the installation of an Odikro provides an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate their heritage, and reaffirm their commitment to their traditions and values. The ceremony surrounding the installation of an Odikro is often a grand affair, involving traditional music, dance, and other cultural performances.

In addition, the Odikro serves as a link between the community and the wider world, representing the community’s interests and promoting its welfare. The Odikro may engage with government officials, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to attract development projects, resources, and investments that benefit the community.
