The Member of Parliament (MP) for Suaman Constituency in the Western North Region, Hon. Frederick Addy, has donated eye-care equipment to the Dadieso Polyclinic as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
The equipment, according to Hon. Addy, is intended to strengthen the capacity of the polyclinic to provide eye-care services and reduce the difficulties patients face in accessing specialised treatment.
Speaking at a gathering to present the equipment, Hon. Addy said the intervention was in response to an appeal made by a former medical doctor at the facility regarding the need for adequate equipment to support eye-care services.
He explained that after receiving the appeal, he asked the doctor to put the facility’s needs on a scale of preference to enable him to prioritise them among the various healthcare needs of the constituency. He said, based on the request submitted, the eye-care equipment was placed at the top of the list, followed by other items.
Hon. Addy said the provision of the equipment would help bring an end to the situation where residents with eye-related conditions had to be referred to facilities in Juaboso or Enchi for further attention.
According to him, the intervention was part of his commitment to ensuring that residents of Suaman had access to quality healthcare without necessarily travelling long distances to seek treatment.
He therefore urged the management and staff of the Dadieso Polyclinic to take proper care of the equipment and make good use of it to benefit residents of the constituency.
Hon. Addy further disclosed his intention to support efforts to upgrade the Dadieso Polyclinic to a hospital, saying the provision of the equipment would also demonstrate to health officials who come to inspect the facility that the polyclinic was ready and had the necessary equipment to support its upgrade to hospital status.
He called on all stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to come on board and support the growth and development of the health sector in the constituency, stressing that improving healthcare delivery required collective efforts.
Hon. Addy said the intervention was funded through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Fund and assured constituents that he would continue to ensure that available resources were put to good use to improve healthcare delivery in Suaman.
The health officers at the Dadieso Polyclinic expressed their appreciation to Hon. Addy for the support, saying the equipment would contribute significantly to healthcare delivery at the facility. They assured him that they would take good care of the equipment and ensure that it was put to proper and effective use for the benefit of patients.
