Nana Kwaku Duah, Nkwanta-Pentin Adontehene, a sub-chief of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has refuted widespread social media claims that he insulted the Asantehene and was subsequently banished from the Manhyia Palace.
The rumours emerged in the wake of the Doteyie (funeral rites) of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, which has drawn dignitaries and traditional leaders from far and near.
Addressing the matter in an interview with Asona Dehyiɛ Kwateng, Nana Kwaku Duah described the allegations as completely false. “I have heard it on social media that people claim I have been beaten and sacked from the Manhyia Palace. That’s never true,” he stressed.
Recounting an incident at the palace during the funeral on Tuesday, he explained that a young man, reportedly a Rastafarian, confronted him and asked whether he was the one accused of insulting the Asantehene. Nana Kwaku Duah said he immediately challenged the man to provide specific evidence of the alleged insults, which he could not.
The encounter, according to him, attracted security personnel. He also disclosed that another Rastafarian assisted him to move his car in order not to obstruct the Asantehene’s convoy. He alleged that some individuals, including a person from Offinso, were present at the scene with a camera.
“During this time, I heard one of them saying you can’t insult the old man,” he recounted. However, Nana Kwaku Duah insisted there was no truth to the claims, urging the public to review his videos. “They should go and watch my videos; there’s no way I have been insulting Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,” he maintained.
While distancing himself from any insults, he admitted to occasionally criticizing some chiefs around the Asantehene for what he described as their failure to defend Otumfuo against public attacks. He cited the Offinso and Sampa chieftaincy cases as examples, arguing that some chiefs feed Otumfuo with information but fail to stand up for him when he is targeted.
Nana Kwaku Duah was emphatic that no one has the authority to expel him from the palace. “It’s never true that I have insulted the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, or that I have been sacked from the Manhyia Palace… I know there’s someone behind this malicious fabrication to disgrace me, but it won’t work… and there’s no way someone can sack me from the palace,” he declared.
He called on the public to disregard the rumours, describing them as calculated attempts to tarnish his image and sow division within Asanteman.
