Armed soldiers and police have allegedly attacked residents of Ada-Bonikope, a town in the Greater Accra Region, leaving locals living in fear. The residents claim that the soldiers and police are being used as “land guards” to take over their lands, and they accuse Electrochem, a company linked to MACDAN, of being behind the attacks.
According to Public Relations Officer Mr. Karim Abraham Ahumah, the situation is dire, with residents feeling like they’re living in a state of terror. The soldiers and police have allegedly mounted barriers on parts of the land, destroyed some of the residents’ items, and are harassing locals to the point where they can’t even go to work anymore.
This isn’t the first time the community has faced violence; residents claim that a similar incident occurred between 1985 and 2023, resulting in the death of a pregnant woman. The community is now calling on President-Elect John Mahama, Parliament, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to intervene and seek justice for the people.
