The leadership of the Unified Group, the youth advocacy wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expresses its profound satisfaction with the performance of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama in his first 30 days in office. His swift and strategic actions demonstrate his commitment to repositioning Ghana on the right path.

Indeed, this period has reinforced the need for an experienced and visionary leader to steer the nation through its current economic and governance challenges. His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has shown remarkable leadership by swiftly restoring confidence among the international community and the Ghanaian populace.

Upon assuming office, President Mahama inherited a struggling economy characterized by high debt levels, energy crises, and a rising cost of living. However, rather than dwelling on the difficulties, he has chosen to focus on delivering results and fulfilling the social contract he signed with the people of Ghana.

It is important to recall that when President Mahama left office in 2016, he handed over a stable and promising economy to his successor, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. At the time, he left behind several financial mechanisms designed to sustain national development, including:

1. The Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA) Fund, projected to generate $3 billion annually.
2. Two oil fields, capable of generating $300 million per year.
3. The Ghana EXIM (Export-Import) Fund.
4. The Ghana Infrastructure Fund.
5. The Sinking Fund, created to reduce national debt.
6. The Stabilization Fund, designed to cushion economic shocks.

Despite these provisions, the Akufo-Addo administration left behind an economy in shambles, marked by economic mismanagement, worsening debt levels, an energy crisis, and a high cost of living.

However, President Mahama has refused to be discouraged by these challenges and has instead taken proactive steps to restore the nation’s economic stability.

In his first month in office, President Mahama has already made significant strides in governance, economic revival, and social development. Just to mention a few of his achievements;

1. Initiated peace discussions with key stakeholders to restore stability in Bawku.
2. Constituted a committee to establish the Gold Board to regulate and manage Ghana’s gold resources effectively.
3. Formed an 8-member Education Forum Planning Committee, tasked with developing a report and strategic plan within two weeks.
4. Set up an Economic Dialogue Planning Committee to engage stakeholders on reviving the economy.
5. Established a Tripartite Committee to negotiate and determine the minimum wage and base pay for public sector workers.
6. Issued a directive through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to immediately halt illegal mining activities in forests and water bodies.
8. Averted an imminent power crisis through strategic interventions.
9. Reduced the number of ministries from 30 to 23, enhancing efficiency and reducing government expenditure.

Considering these remarkable achievements within just 30 days, we have no doubt that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is committed to restoring Ghana’s economy and governance to its former glory.

The Unified Group therefore calls on all Ghanaians and the international community to rally behind President Mahama in his mission to rebuild the nation. With collective support, patriotism, and dedication, Ghana will rise again
