UPDN CONDEMNS DOGBE’S ATTACK ON ASHIGBEY, DEMANDS APOLOGY

UPDN CONDEMNS ATTACKS ON MEDIA COALITION AGAINST ILLEGAL MINING CONVENER AND DEMANDS IMMEDIATE APOLOGY FROM MR. STAN DOGBE!

The United Press for Development Network (UPDN) has expressed deep concern over recent verbal and social media attacks by Mr. Stan Dogbe, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations, against Dr. Ken Ashigbey, Convener of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining (also known as the Ghana Coalition Against Illegal Mining).

UPDN described the attacks as unfortunate and unacceptable, noting that Mr. Dogbe attempted to politicize a matter of national interest by labeling Dr. Ashigbey a sympathizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) simply for maintaining an objective stance on the ongoing galamsey menace.

The Coalition, UPDN emphasized, has always operated with patriotism, professionalism, and the defense of Ghana’s environmental and developmental interests. Its work is non-partisan and focused solely on protecting Ghana’s natural resources and promoting responsible governance in the fight against illegal mining.

UPDN strongly disagreed with Mr. Dogbe’s comments, calling them a direct attack on media freedom, civic activism, and national integrity. The organization demanded an immediate, unqualified apology from Mr. Dogbe to Dr. Ashigbey and the entire Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining.

The network further urged Mr. Dogbe to cease all social media attacks and defamatory remarks against individuals or organizations offering fair, constructive criticism of the current government.

“The fight against illegal mining is a national duty, not a partisan contest,” UPDN stated. “We stand firmly with all journalists, civil society advocates, and patriotic citizens defending Ghana’s environment from greed, pollution, and destruction.”
