UNWARRANTED HARASSMENT ON HIGHWAYS MUST BE CEASED – Alliance Of Drivers

The Alliance of Drivers, led by National Organizer Ishmael Mohammad Chobal, has taken a firm stance against unwarranted harassment on highways, demanding that authorities put an end to this menace. For too long, drivers have been subjected to unnecessary stops, searches, and extortion by law enforcement officials.

This harassment not only causes inconvenience to drivers but also results in financial losses and emotional distress. The Alliance argues that these actions are unprofessional and undermine the rule of law.

Ishmael Mohammad Chobal emphasizes that the Alliance will not stand idly by while drivers are subjected to harassment and extortion. The Alliance is demanding that authorities take concrete steps to address this issue.

The Alliance’s call for action comes amid growing concerns about police misconduct and corruption on Ghana’s roads. Many drivers have reported being forced to pay bribes or face unnecessary penalties.

Chobal notes that the Alliance has been engaging with various stakeholders, including government officials and law enforcement agencies, to discuss the issue and potential solutions.

The Alliance has acknowledged that the police, particularly the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), have a role to play in enforcing traffic regulations. However, they have called on the police MTTD to conduct their checks in a professional manner, without intimidation.

“We understand that checks are necessary, but intimidation and harassment are unacceptable,” Chobal said. “We call on the police MTTD to strike a balance between enforcing the law and respecting the rights of drivers.”

In a positive development, the Alliance has agreed to the reduction of fares, calling on all drivers to comply with the new rates. This move is expected to benefit passengers and promote a more harmonious relationship between drivers and passengers.

The Alliance is pushing for a comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of harassment, including providing clear guidelines for law enforcement officials and increasing transparency and accountability.

As the nation watches with anticipation, it’s essential for authorities to demonstrate their commitment to addressing this issue. The Alliance’s efforts are a step in the right direction toward creating a more just and equitable society.
