The increasing rate of unnecessary blowing of horns and reckless driving by some truck drivers in Bibiani has become a major concern requiring urgent attention from authorities and stakeholders.
Residents and road users say the situation is becoming unbearable, especially within busy sections of the municipality where heavy-duty trucks continuously blow horns indiscriminately, causing noise pollution and fear among pedestrians.
According to some residents, many of the truck drivers show little respect for motorcyclists and drivers of smaller vehicles, often intimidating them on the roads and engaging in dangerous overtaking.
They explained that some truck drivers speed through populated areas without considering the safety of other road users, forcing motorists and pedestrians to quickly move out of their way.
Commercial motor riders, popularly known as “okada” riders, have also expressed concern over the behaviour of some truck drivers, describing their conduct as threatening and irresponsible.
Some residents further alleged that a number of the drivers smoke “wee” while driving, a practice they believe affects their judgment and contributes to careless and dangerous driving on the roads.
They noted that the continuous sounding of horns, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours, disturbs schools, businesses and residents living close to major roads in the municipality.
Market women and traders operating along busy roads in Bibiani also fear for their safety, saying they are constantly exposed to danger due to the reckless movement of some heavy-duty trucks.
Residents warned that if urgent action is not taken to address the situation, the municipality could witness more road accidents, injuries and possible loss of lives in the future.
They are therefore appealing to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), the Bibiani Municipal Assembly and other relevant authorities to intensify road safety enforcement measures and impose stricter sanctions on drivers who violate traffic regulations.
