The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bia East District, Hon. Francis Amankwaa, has reaffirmed his commitment to leaving a lasting legacy of development in the district, citing a number of infrastructure and social intervention projects undertaken under his administration.
According to him, his vision is to ensure that the people of Bia East enjoy improved living conditions through quality infrastructure, enhanced healthcare delivery, improved educational facilities, and expanded economic opportunities for the youth.
Speaking in an interview, Hon. Amankwaa disclosed that one of the major achievements of his administration has been the successful resolution of challenges surrounding the proposed 24-hour market project. He stated that a suitable site has now been secured for the facility, with the contractor expected to commence fencing and other preliminary works this week.
He explained that the 24-hour market forms part of government’s broader agenda to stimulate local economic growth, create jobs and provide traders with a conducive environment to conduct business around the clock.
The DCE further revealed that his administration has facilitated the construction of several Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds across the district. He noted that a fully furnished CHPS compound has recently been completed and handed over to a beneficiary community through funding from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
According to him, this achievement makes him the first DCE in the Western North Region to successfully complete and hand over a fully furnished CHPS compound funded solely through the DACF, describing the feat as historic and beneficial to healthcare delivery in the district.
Touching on road infrastructure, Hon. Amankwaa indicated that several major roads, including some that had been abandoned for decades, have undergone extensive reshaping, rehabilitation and tarring to improve accessibility and facilitate economic activities.
He also disclosed that more than ten mechanised boreholes have been constructed under his legacy projects to provide communities with safe and reliable drinking water, thereby improving public health and sanitation.
In the education sector, the DCE stated that a six-unit classroom block abandoned under the previous administration has been completed and put into use. He added that several kindergarten blocks and other educational infrastructure projects have also been undertaken to improve teaching and learning conditions across the district.
Hon. Amankwaa further highlighted efforts to create employment opportunities for the youth, explaining that many young people in the district have been assisted to secure recruitment into various state institutions and programmes, enabling them to support their families and contribute meaningfully to national development.
He said these interventions are in line with the government’s Resetting Ghana Agenda, which seeks to improve livelihoods, expand economic opportunities and accelerate development across the country.
The Bia East DCE appealed to Nananom, opinion leaders and residents to continue supporting him with prayers and cooperation to enable him deliver even more development projects. He urged citizens not to politicise development issues, stressing that the welfare of the people must always take precedence over partisan interests.
Describing himself as “Oliver Twist, always asking for more,” Hon. Amankwaa said he would never become complacent and would continue striving for greater achievements until Bia East attains the level of development its people deserve.
