Asante Gold Chirano Limited has awarded full scholarships to 26 tertiary students from its host communities under the Chirano Sefwiman Foundation Scholarship Scheme.
The scholarship presentation ceremony was held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Chirano Mine Village, with traditional authorities, political heads, education leaders, parents, community representatives and other stakeholders in attendance.
Under the scholarship scheme, the selected students will have their academic fees fully covered by Asante Gold Chirano Limited for the duration of their approved tertiary education.
In his speech, the General Manager of Asante Gold Chirano Limited, Mr. Stephen Amoah, explained that the scholarship package was designed to support brilliant but needy students within the Mine’s catchment area and provide them with the opportunity to pursue tertiary education.
Mr. Amoah stressed the Mine’s commitment to supporting the development of its host communities, assuring the gathering that Asante Gold Chirano Limited remained ready to contribute to the educational and socio-economic advancement of people within its operational area.
The Chairman of the Scholarship Scheme, Nana Elou Panyin II, Chief of Nsuonzua, disclosed that the scholarship programme was specifically intended to benefit students from the 20 catchment communities where the Mine operates within the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality and the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality.
He explained that applicants were subjected to a selection process involving an aptitude test and an interview, while beneficiaries were required to demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.
Nana Elou Panyin II said the criteria were designed to ensure that the opportunities reached students who were genuinely brilliant but needy and capable of making good use of the support.
He further disclosed that about 157 students are currently pursuing various programmes at universities and other tertiary institutions with financial support from Asante Gold Chirano Limited through its scholarship initiatives.
The ceremony also brought together 24 previous scholarship beneficiaries who had graduated from various universities. The graduates were accompanied by their parents, who joined them to celebrate their academic achievements and acknowledge the support they had received from the Company.
The Chairman expressed profound gratitude to Asante Gold Chirano Limited for its continued investment in the education and development of young people in its host communities. He urged the beneficiaries to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their studies.
He also appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other stakeholders to provide quality education and the necessary support to the students to enable them to realise their full potential.
The Chief Executive Officer of Asante Gold Chirano Limited, Mr. Campbell, congratulated the beneficiaries and the graduates and urged the students to come out with flying colours in their respective programmes.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously, remain focused and make the most of the opportunity provided by the Company.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries and graduates, their representatives expressed appreciation to Asante Gold Chirano Limited for providing them with opportunities to pursue their education without the financial burden that could have hindered their academic progress.
They thanked the Company for its continued investment in the education of young people in its host communities and pledged to make good use of the opportunity by working hard to achieve academic excellence and contribute positively to their communities.
