BAB: Drivers Appeal to IGP to Stop Police MTTD Harassment on Highways

Drivers in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the western north region have made a passionate appeal to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, to intervene and stop the constant harassment they face from the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) on highways.

According to the drivers, MTTD officers are fond of stopping them unnecessarily and demanding money from them. This, they say, is affecting their businesses and livelihoods.

The drivers are calling on the IGP to take immediate action to address this issue, ensure their safety, and protect their rights. “We are not criminals, but law-abiding citizens trying to make a living. We urge the IGP to stop this harassment and ensure that we can work without fear of intimidation,” said one of the drivers.

The drivers’ appeal comes after numerous complaints and reports of harassment by MTTD officers on highways. They are wondering why the police MTTD in Bibiani have refused to obey the IGP’s orders to back off the highways, instead of chasing innocent drivers and intimidating them.”
